Chargers Select Wide Receiver Mike Williams as 7th Overall Pick

April 30, 2017 put out a bottom line on Williams and it is something that every Chargers fan should read. "Antonio Brown didn't run a fast time and he's the highest paid receiver in the league right now". Pete Prisco was less impressed with Los Angeles selection of Williams, giving the Chargers a "C-" and saying "I know they need receivers, but I don't think this kid separates well enough".

The Los Angeles Chargers used their first draft choice after their move north on a playmaker who could attract plenty of attention in their new home.

Williams' biggest value comes in the red zone, where he consistently wins contested catches and takes advantage of his size and length.

While at Clemson, Williams suffered a scary injury to his neck/back area that caused him to miss the entire 2015 season.

The concerns: Williams has struggled at times with drops, and doesn't always create immediate separation.

He caught 98 passes for 1,361 yards and 11 touchdowns past year as the Tigers won the national championship. If we can't move out or we don't move up, I think we're in a good spot. "It's going to be really exciting to learn and play with him". They drafted wide receiver Mike Williams, who provides Rivers with another target for his passes and sends a message that they are focused on the here and now more than what might happen a few years from now.

Like Floyd and Jackson, Williams has the speed to get defensive backs on their heels and the physique to wrestle away the 50-50 balls that Rivers often thrives on. "So it's just confidence I gained from practice and just going out there everyday having fun".

"Probably just work ethic, seeing him every day competing in practice", Williams said at the Combine. "I look forward to getting with him and having fun".
