Seven of the state's top 10 public high schools are in the New Orleans area, according to the 2017 U. S. News & World Report survey released Tuesday.

U.S. News has provided data on high schools in large city districts, even if the school is not ranked. Only 19 received gold awards, including Aurora High School, Hudson High School, Avon Lake High School and Solon High School.

Corbin High School earned a silver medal status for their national ranking. The bronze rating was given to 16.8 percent of the schools. "The big part is the aforementioned groups of individuals coming together and focusing as a team". Bronze medals did not count in this year's state-by-state analysis.

Krista Mathias, Golden Eagles superintendent, praised the district team. Much like St. Charles North, Jacobs was awarded a silver medal recognition.

She attributed her school's first place spot to its teachers, who she said are often experts in their field and are treated like professionals by the administration. They looked at student performance on state mandated tests, minority enrollment and performance, graduation rates and college-readiness.

"Those opportunities are garnering fantastic results", Mathias said.

"Every year we're very honored to be ranked", Jordison said. A complete listing of which high schools were ranked and given a ranking can be obtained at https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/search?district-id=110225&state-urlname=texas .

Four high schools is Edmond are among the 10 best in Oklahoma, the publication's 2017 Best High Schools rankings show.

Stevenson High School in north suburban Lincolnshire came in at No. 6, west suburban Hinsdale Central High School at No. 7 and northwest suburban Prospect High School at No. 9. Pennsylvania was tied with IL for 22nd. The evaluations consider how effectively schools educate their disadvantaged students, including those from low-income backgrounds. But Beachwood was not at the top of the U.S. News study, ranking 91st in Ohio.
