There are already "thousands" of stores and establishments where Android owners can go to and use Android Pay, like Burger King, Starbucks, H&M, McDonalds, and a lot of other local brands and businesses. Last month, AP Hota, managing director of National Payments Corporation of India that developed UPI, said messaging service WhatsApp had shown interest in UPI for the launch of its new payments platform here. We are expecting that these companies will roll out their UPI products this year.

Google and Stripe, in response to queries from ET, did not specifically comment on their entry into India's payments market. PayPal has a slew of FAQ related to its integration with Android Pay available here.

After PayPal and Google announced last month that they will be offering USA customers the chance to use their PayPal credentials in Android Pay, it looks as though the integration is going live.

Residents of the Great White North may soon be able to pay for goods and services with Android Pay.

A report today says that Android Pay is finally coming to Canada at the end of the month, just about 6 months since we first found evidence of the imminent rollout in a teardown of the Android Pay app.

According to a third source, Stripe was in advanced negotiations to enter India through a partnership with UPI. You'll need your in-store PIN to set up the payment method, too. "As far as Stripe is concerned, it's really a payment gateway". They did promise to add more banks later on, as what they have done with other countries as well.
