"Sonic Mania celebrates the best of Classic Sonic, pushing the envelope forward with stunning 60 FPS gameplay and pixel-perfect physics".

Sonic Mania, the revival of the 2D side-scrolling Sonic platforming games from the '90s, is set to be released August 15 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, publisher Sega announced today.

In addition to the release date, Sega also released a brand new trailer for Sonic Mania (featuring animation by Tyson Hesse and music from Hyper Potions), and confirmed that it'll be priced at $19.99 on all digital storefronts. Thankfully, one of Sega's past pieces of gameplay footage focuses on Knuckles making a run through the updated version of the Flying Battery Zone, giving a good look at the character's capabilities in the new game.

The game will let players take the role of Sonic, Knuckles or Tails as they pursue Dr. Eggman. The game's developers include Christian Whitehead and Simon Thomley, who are both renowned for developing great ports of older Sonic games.

Why Sonic Mania is Nick Robinson's most anticipated game.

For those unaware, Sega's now-official launch time for Sonic Mania actually matches the release date accidentally revealed through Steam several days ago. But whatever the case may be, it won't be too long before we're spin-dashing around levels the way we used to when we were younger.
