Armed police have swooped on London Bridge after a vehicle reportedly ploughed into dozens of people.

"One of them had a big knife, then he came in and walked around the restaurant, I guess they just kind of stabbed anyone that they saw and knocked things on the ground and then we just hid".

A witness told Reuters that at least six people were hit on the bridge.

Australian senator Sam Dastyari was enjoying a late dinner with his UK Labour mates in London's Borough Markets when the screaming started.

England has been under heightened alert since a bomb was detonated at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester nearly two weeks ago, killing 22 and wounding more than 100 as they left the venue.

There were also reports of a third incident, a stabbing in the Vauxhall area of London. At the same time, two men entered a restaurant across from the bridge and stabbed two people.

There have been no official reports yet regarding casualties, but it is clear from the attending paramedics and active police role in ordering evacuations that the situation is both serious and ongoing. But these last two to three months, we had two confirmed terrorist attacks, 22 people dying up in Manchester at the concert.

She added that she saw a man, who had his shirt off and was in handcuffs, being arrested by police. There is no justification whatsoever for such barbaric acts.
