Russian Communications Said They Had Dirt on Trump and Aides

The sources said that Russian officials discussed the information during conversations that were intercepted in 2016 by USA intelligence.

Russian officials had potentially "derogatory" information about then-presidential candidate Donald Trump and some of his top aides, conversations intercepted by USA intelligence during the 2016 election showed.

The report could also increase calls for Trump to release his tax returns, given that the intercepted communications discussed possible financial ties. His lawyer admits that the House has requested information on his Russian contacts, but he has not yet been subpoenaed. However, the sources also said Russian Federation may have exaggerated the claims.

One of the sources said the information was financial in nature, which could either be some sort of embarrassing proof that Trump isn't as rich as he says he is, or could be embarrassing because it shows he does have ties to serious financial ties to Russian Federation after all, after denying it many times.

The White House dismissed the story as "false", based on anonymous sources.

Yates confirmed reports that she had told the White House, six days into Trump's administration, that Flynn, a former military intelligence chief, had not been honest with Vice President Mike Pence about his discussions with the Russian ambassador to Washington, leaving him vulnerable to leverage from Moscow.

"There appears to be no limit to which the President's political opponents will go to perpetuate this false narrative..."

He claimed the Kremlin is now conducting only "basic level" exchanges with the Trump administration out of worry that details could be spilled to the USA media. "All this does is play into the hands of our adversaries and put our country at risk", the statement said. Eric Trump has vigorously denied he made the remark.

It was then-CIA director John O. Brennan, a close confidant of Mr. Obama's, who provided the information - what he termed the "basis" - for the FBI to start the counterintelligence investigation last summer. Except that the firm didn't release Trump's taxes, carefully avoided many sources of revenue, excused themselves from counting money that Trump didn't tell them came from Russian Federation and, oh yeah, had millions in those "few exceptions".

Trump mentioned the Russia allegations on Twitter Tuesday morning, writing, "Russian officials must be laughing at the USA & how a lame excuse for why the Dems lost the election has taken over the Fake News".

Donald Trump Jr. told a forum of real estate investors in 2008 that the family business has seen "a lot of money pouring in from Russian Federation".

The FBI investigation into Russian meddling in the USA election, recently handed over to Special Counsel Robert Mueller, includes seeking answers as to whether there was any coordination with associates of Trump and includes examining financial dealings of key Trump associates. The first was income Trump received from the 2013 Miss Universe pageant held in Moscow. While the Russian officials could have possibly been bluffing, they purportedly bragged about potentially blackmailing Trump.
