Six policemen killed in terrorist attack in Kashmir's Anantnag district

Anantnag encounter: Five police personnel including an officer have been killed in a terrorist attack on a police party at Thajiwara Achabal in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.

After the incident, clashes broke out between protesters and security forces at almost a dozen places in the Valley, including downtown Srinagar, Tral, Pampore, Pulwama town and Anantnag in south Kashmir, Hajin in Bandipora and Sopore in Baramulla in north Kashmir.

A policeman and a civilian were killed in two separate shootouts in Srinagar on Thursday evening while terrorist shot at and injured a woman in Katrasu village of south Kashmir's Anantnag district.

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, June 17 (Xinhua) - Three militants, including a commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant outfit, and two civilians were killed in a fierce gunfight in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said Saturday. He was in the news in June 2016 for killing two policemen at Anantnag bus stand in broad daylight.

"The search operation is going on and we are yet to recover bodies of militants", Pani told ET. When the forces closed in on the hiding militants, they were fired upon by the militants, triggering an exchange. Three militants are believed to be trapped inside the cordon laid by army and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir police.

According to KNS correspondent, a spontaneous shutdown was observed in parts of Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama districts against these killings.


Officials say dozens of youth have joined the freedom fighters since last July after a popular freedom leader was killed by security forces, sparking months of wide-scale protests in the territory.

Security forces surrounded two houses in Arwani village of Kulgam district.

"Six policemen, including Dar, later succumbed to their injuries on way to hospital", sources said.

Train services between Baramulla and Bannihal towns were suspended.

Matoo raised into the militant ranks after he carried out an attack, killing two cops including an Assistant Sub Inspector of JK Police on busy KP road near Bus stand, Islamabad in June a year ago.
