The Staggering Hypocrisy of Newt Gingrich

"It's part of a pattern", former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Wednesday in response to the shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA). "What you have lived through for 2 1/2 years is the most systematic, deliberate obstruction of justice, coverup and effort to avoid the truth we have ever seen in American history, and the time has come to say to the president, 'Quit undermining the law in the United States".

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said on Friday (above) that Donald Trump was innocent of obstruction of justice because he is president - even though Gingrich led the charge in impeaching former President Bill Clinton in 1998. On Friday he called the investigation into Trump a "witch hunt". "Right now, we have Mueller who is highly respected".

Gingrich has been one of Trump's most vocal supporters. "And they're probably going to go to jail", Gingrich told Fox News's Sean Hannity.

"They made up a phony collusion with the Russians story, found zero proof, so now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story", he wrote.

In testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee last week, Comey testified that Trump had asked him to drop his investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn before firing Comey.

'His reputation is impeccable for honesty and integrity, ' Gingrich tweeted on May 17.

The reports that Trump was considering ousting Mueller appeared to lead to officials leaking to the Post that the Mueller investigation included probing possible obstruction of justice, a move that would make it more hard for Trump to remove Mueller without increased backlash.
