'Trooping the color' in London for queen's official birthday

The event is an important day in the armed forces' calendar where the families and friends of the officers and soldiers on parade, proudly watch the ceremony.

The Duchess of Cambridge won hearts in a stunning pleated pink Alexander McQueen dress complete with a matching hat and understated earrings.

The duchess rode in a carriage with Prince Harry and the Duchess of Cornwall. According to the Telegraph, George had initially seemed restless as the group gathered for photographs, but once the flyby began he was "bouncing on his toes as he waited for the next plane to arrive".

As part of her birthday message, the queen paid her respects to the victims who lost their lives in recent tragedies across the UK.

The 91-year-old monarch was greeted on Saturday by hundreds of well-wishers on a sunny day in the heart of ceremonial London.

Playing the role of page boy and flower girl, three-year-old George and two-year-old Charlotte were seen being told to be quiet by Kate.

In her official birthday message Saturday, the Queen addressed the latest tragedy to hit the nation.

"During recent visits in Manchester and London, I have been profoundly struck by the immediate inclination of people throughout the country to offer comfort and support to those in desperate need", the queen said.

Queen Elizabeth's first birthday was in April.

Trooping the Colour is the only guaranteed annual appearance of the whole group - and it always proves to be a fun spectacle.
