The Kansas City Royals held on for a 7-5 win over the Houston Astros Wednesday night.

Dallas Keuchel #60 of the Houston Astros delivers against the Texas Rangers during the first inning at Globe Life Park in Arlington on June 2, 2017 in Arlington, Texas.

The only thing close to an early Kansas City hit was Alcides Escobar's third-inning high chopper on which McCullers made a leaping catch and threw out the batter at first.

Ramon Torres, making his ML debut, had two hits, including an RBI double.

Junis has been dominating hitters at Omaha with 57 strikeouts against just eight walks in 42 1/3 innings. "I fouled it off and was kind of looking for something out over the plate". "He throws a hundred with a banger slider".

Remember: just because you see it in a box score, doesn't make it so. "I felt like I was able to move freely".

Merrifield has hit safely in 20 of his last 21 games.

"I let my team down", Giles said. They did exactly what they needed to do.

Houston Astros catcher Brian McCannn and relief pitcher Chris Devenski (47) celebrate after the Astros defeated the Kansas City Royals 6-1 in a baseball game Thursday, June 8, 2017, in Kansas City, Mo. These two have split the first two meetings in this series, but the Royals are 3-2 this season against Houston. He scored on Mike Moustakas' two-out single to tie the score.

Herrera's ERA jumped to 5.55 as he gave up four runs in one-third of an inning. Josh Reddick, who had three hits, and Carlos Correa had the other run-scoring hits in the inning.

The Astros scored three runs (two unearned) in the eighth inning to cut into the Royals' five-run advantage. Springer extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a double and single. The over/under total for the game has been set at 8.5 runs.

Hinch said Keuchel had been "sick for the last couple of days".

If you've been following the thread of this particular narrative, I doubt I need to tell you how the ninth inning turned out for the KC Royals. Certainly they deserve a lot of credit for their at-bats. "Then a few too many sliders". Martes, ranked as the Astros' top prospect, is 0-2 with a 5.29 ERA in eight Pacific Coast League starts.

Gordon homered in the third for the Royals, his first since September 25, a span of 192 at-bats.

He is 9-0 with a 1.67 ERA in 11 starts for the Astros, who have the best record in baseball. 3B Marwin Gonzalez (bruised left hand) was not in the lineup, but was available to pinch hit. "I know he's sore", Hinch said. "We'll see how he feels tomorrow", Yost said. We might put something on his bat to alleviate the pressure.

Royals: RHP Nathan Karns (right extensor strain and nerve irritation) is not yet ready for a rehab stint as the club waits for the soreness to recede. "We don't have a timetable yet". The team is now playing without its projected 1-3-4-5 starters, with Dallas Keuchel, Collin McHugh, Charlie Morton, and Joe Musgrove on the DL (Musgrove may return this week). The team won 12 straight in 1999 and 2004.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Astros are favored on the road, as they are getting odds of -170 to win, while the Royals are listed with odds of +155 to prevail.
